Product Design & Conversion
Designing a conversion-focused learning platform for drone pilots
Drone Flight Academy is an online learning platform where users can obtain their official EU drone pilot certificate. The platform offers a range of courses tailored to the user’s drone type, weight class, and level of experience.
During my CMD course, I worked on improving the platform’s user experience and conversion. My focus was on simplifying complex decision-making, building user trust, and optimizing key conversion moments such as course selection and the checkout flow.
Design process
- UX & conversion analysis
- Information architecture & flows
- Wireframing key pages
- Iterative design & feedback
During this CMD project, I worked on improving the user experience and conversion of the Drone Flight Academy platform in close collaboration with the client.
The platform operates in a highly regulated and trust-sensitive domain, where users often feel unsure about which training they need and whether they are making the right choice.
One of the main UX challenges was translating complex legal and technical requirements into a clear and confidence-building experience.
Early exploration showed that users struggled most with decision-making, especially during course selection, rather than with the content itself.
My role focused on simplifying this decision process by structuring information more clearly and guiding users step by step toward the right training.
Instead of presenting all options at once, the experience was designed around progressive disclosure, gradually introducing information based on the user’s drone type, weight class and experience level.
To build trust at key moments, I applied persuasion principles such as social proof and commitment.
Elements like success rates, reviews and recognised partners were strategically placed to reinforce credibility without overwhelming users.
The goal was to reassure users at moments of doubt, rather than adding more information everywhere.
Conversion was further supported by optimising call-to-action placement and flow.
CTAs were kept consistently visible and positioned within thumb reach on mobile, allowing users to continue at any point without friction.
Special attention was given to the course selection and checkout flow, ensuring users always understood where they were and what the next step would be.
This project helped me develop a deeper understanding of designing for conversion within complex and regulated environments.
It strengthened my ability to apply UX principles in practice, balance clarity with completeness, and collaborate with a real client.
The final experience guides users through a complex decision with confidence, reducing uncertainty while supporting both trust and conversion.
